Bangkok to the North 9 Days
Day 1 – Bangkok
Arrival transfer to your centrally located hotel. Stay three nights at the Century Park Hotel.
Day 2 – Bangkok
See the landmarks of the city today with visits to the Royal Grand Palace and the Buddhist temples Wat Po and Wat Trimit. (B)
Day 3 – Bangkok
Visit the floating market at Damnoen Saduak by long-tail boat and spend an afternoon full of Thai culture at Sampran Riverside with a variety of hands-on activities focused on Thai village traditions. (B,L)
Day 4 – Bangkok – Ayutthaya – Phitsanulok
Leave Bangkok and travel to Bang Pa-In to visit the sumptuous Summer Palace of Rama V. Visit the former capital of Ayutthaya with its ancient temples then continue on to Phitsanulok for a brief orientation tour. Stay one night at the Amarin Lagoon Hotel. (B,L)
Day 5 – Phitsanulok – Sukhothai – Lampang
Join the locals for morning prayers at an historic temple before departing for Sukhothai to explore its palace and temple ruins. At Si Satchanalai, founded in 1250, cross a wooden suspension bridge to explore temples and countless statues of Buddha. Arrive in Lampang and stay one night at the Wieng Lakor Hotel. (B,L)
Day 6 – Lampang – Phayao – Golden Triangle – Chiang Rai
Just outside Lampang explore the elaborately decorated Wat Phra That Lampang Luang. Stop at Phayao Lake for a coffee break then continue to the southern edge of Chiang Rai to visit Wat Rong Khun, a modern and dazzling white temple embedded with pieces of mirror. After lunch in Chiang Rai head to the Golden Triangle, where Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet. This natural wilderness gained notoriety in the Sixties from abundant opium cultivation. Stay one night at the Laluna Hotel. (B,L)
Day 7 – Chiang Rai – Chiang Mai
Make a lively start to the day at the vibrant Chiang Rai market. Leave town on a long-tail boat for a scenic Mae Kok River cruise. Visit a hill tribe village before continuing by road to Chiang Mai. Take the stairs or a cable car to visit Wat Phra That Doi Suthep on a mountain top for panoramic views over the city. Stay two nights at the Holiday Inn Chiang Mai. (B,L)
Day 8 – Chiang Mai
In the jungle near Chiang Mai visit the Elephant Care Centre which cares for elderly elephants retired from logging. Visit a handicraft centre for colourful parasols, silk, silverware and teakwood carvings. (B,L)
Day 9 – Chiang Mai
Transfer to Chiang Mai Airport for your exit flight. (B)
