Cambodia Explorer 9 Days
Day 1: Arrive Phnom Penh (No Meals)
Fly to Phnom Penh. (Flight not included.). On arrival private transfer (vehicle with driver) to hotel. Stay three nights at the Duong Chan Hotel (Superior room) in downtown Phnom Penh.
Day 2: Phnom Penh (B)
Please note, all the pagodas, royal palaces and Angkor temples in Cambodia are considered sacred sites and a restricted dress code is mandatory when visiting these places. Skirts, shorts and dresses above the knee and bare shoulders are prohibited. If visiting the upper level of Angkor Wat, elbows must also be covered.
Guided day tour of the capital city. Visit the Central Market, the Russian Market, the Silver Pagoda, the Royal Palace and Wat Phnom, with time to reflect on the Khmer Rouge legacy at the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and the Killing Fields. Also stop at Choeung Ek, the site of a former orchard and mass grave of victims of the Khmer Rouge – killed between 1975 and 1979.
Day 3: Silk Island (B)
Take a short private guided transfer to the local boat jetty for a short private guided boat ride up the Mekong River to this serene ‘Silk Weaving Island’ village, where traditional Cambodian stilted houses are dedicated to the art of silk weaving. Explore Cambodian silk weaving on Koh Dach. Skilled artisans operate hand looms, while others dye and spin silk using inventive spinning wheels made from bicycle parts. This off-the-beaten-path destination offers a rare glimpse into Cambodia’s silk heritage. Return to Phnom Penh by private boat, followed by a short private guided vehicle transfer back to your hotel by noon.
Day 4: Phnom Penh – Battambang (B)
Morning depart for a 5-hour private guided overland transfer to Battambang. Stop at Skun village en route to see the tarantula eaters! Stay two nights at the Au Cabaret Vert Hotel (Bungalow room) in Battambang.
Day 5: Battambang (B)
Spend the morning on a guided tour to experience Battambang daily life. The tour includes prayers with monks as well as explanations of the city’s design and artistic heritage. Afterwards take a guided walk to explore the riverbank. Visit Lonely Tree Café, art and craft galleries /workshops. Further Battambang sightseeing tour this afternoon includes a Bamboo Train ride, Wat Kor village, Phnom Sampeu and a guided walk down buffalo alley. Tonight, a special visit awaits you at Phare Ponleu Selpak – School of Music, Visual & Performing Arts.
Day 6: Battambang – Siem Reap (B)
Early afternoon private guided road transfer to Siem Reap, a journey of around three hours.
Stay three nights at the Memoire D’Angkor Boutique Hotel (Deluxe room) in downtown Siem Reap.
Day 7: Siem Reap (B)
Wake up early morning and take a private guided vehicle transfer to Angkor Wat. Enter the little-used eastern gate of Angkor Wat to watch the sun’s first light shining down on the magnificent temple – an experience you will never forget. Explore magnificent Angkor Wat before larger tourist crows gather. Continue to visit the South Gate of Angkor Thom, the Bayon, and the Terraces of the Elephant and Leper King. Return to the hotel by tuk-tuk for breakfast and balance of the morning at leisure.
In the afternoon, take a one-hour private guided drive through the countryside to visit Banteay Samre and Banteay Srei, the birthplace of Khmer classical style architecture. Also visit the enchanting Ta Phrom Temple which is enveloped by the roots of enormous fig trees.
Day 8: Ton Le Sap, Lotus Silk Farm & Phare Circus (B)
This morning visit the Old Market then take a 30-minute private guided drive to the local boat pier. On arrival, embark on a private local boat and set out on a Tonle Sap Lake adventure to discover the floating villages and some unique wildlife along the way. Learn how communities live and work on the lake; see the floating schools, markets, police stations and observe daily life.
On return to Siem Reap, stop at Lotus Silk Farm. The farm was initiated by Samatoa Lotus Textiles, a social enterprise that pioneers in sustainable textile to manufacture the most eco-friendly textiles and to provide decent jobs to vulnerable women in Cambodia since 2003. This evening enjoy uniquely Cambodian performances by Phare, The Cambodian Circus.The 1-hour show is an incredible hour of traditional and modern theatre, music, dance, acrobatic, athleticism, juggling and contortion all beautifully choreographed and performed in stories about Cambodian lives and society.
Day 9: Depart Siem Reap (B)
Leisure time until private transfer (vehicle with driver) to Siem Reap airport. (Flight not included.)
