Day 1 – Arrive Colombo
Meet your driver-guide at the airport and transfer to your hotel. Stay one night near Colombo airport.

Day 2 – Colombo – Dambulla
Drive to Sigiriya and its 5th-century rock fortress. A moat, rampart, and gardens ring the rock base. Continue on to visit the Dambulla rock temple, built in a series of caves. Stay two nights in Dambulla. (B)

Day 3 – Polonnaruwa & Minneriya National Park
Visit the ancient capital of Polonnaruwa and see the ruins of the Royal Palace, temples and splendid statues of the Buddha. Next stop is Minneiya for a jeep safari in the National Park. The wetlands are home to wild elephants. (B)

Day 4 – Dambulla – Kandy
Travel to Kandy in the foothills of the central highlands, stopping at a spice garden in Matale along the way. Tour culturally rich Kandy, visit an arts and crafts centre, a gem museum, the Temple of the Tooth Relic, and see a cultural show. Stay two nights in Kandy. (B)

Day 5 – Kandy
Visit Peradeniya Royal Botanical Garden, established as a pleasure garden for a king. Also, tour a tea plantation and taste a cup of pure Ceylon tea. (B)

Day 6 – Kandy – Nuwara Eliya
Ride a scenic train from Peradeniya to Nanu Oya, then transfer to the hill station of Nuwara Eliya. Balance of the day at leisure in this English-style village. Stay two nights in Nuwara Eliya. (B)

Day 7 – Horton Plains excursion
Visit Horton Plains, an expanse of grassland with scraggy trees and icy rivulets. See the view from “World’s End” atop an escarpment with a 4,000-foot drop. The park shelters animals such as samburs, leopards, bears, monkeys, and lizards. (B)

Day 8 – Nuwara Eliya – Tissamaharama
Travel to Yala National Park, Sri Lanka’s largest, for a safari by jeep. The park has a high concentration of leopards. Large flocks of migratory and indigenous birds are also found there. Stay one night in nearby Tissamaharama. (B)

Day 9 – Tissamaharama – Galle
Drive to the walled city of Galle, once the chief port of Ceylon. Take a walking tour of Galle Fort and see influences of the Portuguese, Dutch and British in the architecture. The area is known for its handmade lace. Stay two nights in Galle. (B)

Day 10 – Galle
A day at leisure. (B)

Day 11 – Galle – Bentota
It’s a short drive to the coastal resort town of Bentota, seeing stilt fishermen and a local hatchery along the way. Stay two nights in Bentota. (B)

Day 12 – Bentota
Day at leisure. (B)

Day 13 – Bentota – Colombo
Drive to Colombo and take an afternoon city tour. Visit Pettah Bazaar, and see residential areas of stately homes. Stay one night in Colombo. (B)

Day 14 – Depart Colombo
Transfer to the airport for your exit flight. (B)
