Day 1 – Bangkok – Ayutthaya – Kamphaeng Phet
Pick-up from your Bangkok hotel at 7am for the journey north to the see the impressive ruins of the former island capital of Ayutthaya. Board a long-tail boat to cruise around the island then continue to Kamphaeng Phet. Stay one night in Chakungrao Riverview Hotel. (L)
Day 2 – Kamphaeng Phet – Lampang – Chiang Mai
Journey on to Lampang, visiting a Lanna-style temple. Continue to the Thai Elephant Conservation Centre which cares for over 50 Asian elephants in a natural rainforest habitat. Drive on to Chiang Mai. Evening at leisure to try the restaurants and night markets. Stay two nights at Holiday Inn Chiang Mai. (B,L)
Day 3 – Chiang Mai
Visit Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, a revered temple set atop a mountain. Reach it by the 309 step naga staircase or take a cable car. Then visit San Kamphaeng Road, a 10km stretch of shops selling locally made goods such as celadon pottery, silverware and silk products. Afternoon at leisure. (B,L)
Day 4 – Chiang Mai – Lamphun – Sukhothai
See the thousand year old Wat Phra That Hariphunchai at Lamphun, then head south to visit Sukhothai Historical Park which contains the ruins of the first capital of Siam. Stay one night Legendha Hotel. (B,L)
Day 5 – Sukhothai – Lopburi – Bangkok
Visit Lopburi, famed for the troops of macaques that roam the streets. See a Khmer temple and a Brahman shrine known as the Monkey Temple. Arrive Bangkok around 5pm for drop off at a city-centre hotel. (B,L)
