Day 1 – Arrive Kota Kinabalu
Transfer from the airport to your hotel. Stay two nights at the Horizon Hotel in downtown Kota Kinabalu.

Day 2 – Kota Kinabalu
Visit the Mari Mari Cultural Village to learn about the different housing styles and ethnic groups of Sabah. After a traditional welcome by the Chief see demonstrations of bark and rattan weaving, fire making, ancient tattooing and blowpipe making. There is a cultural show and buffet lunch before returning to your hotel. (B,L)

Day 3 – Kinabalu Park
Start early for the drive to Mt Kinabalu Park for grand views of the imposing mist covered mountain. Relax in a sulphur bath at Poring Hot Spring then take a canopy walk high above the rainforest. Stay two nights in a Hill Lodge unit within the National Park. (B,L,D)

Day 4 – Kinabalu Park
Visit the exhibition centre and Mountain Garden to see specimens of the diverse plant life of the park. A naturalist will take you on a trail walk. In the afternoon visit Kundasang War Memorial, a series of gardens representing the homelands of fallen World War ll soldiers of the tragic Death March. (B,L,D)

Day 5 – Sandakan
Drive on to Sandakan, stopping at a fish spa for those who would like to try the unusual experience of allowing fish to nibble away dead skin cells! Travel through palm oil plantations to Labuk Bay, arriving in time for the afternoon feeding of the Proboscis monkeys. Stay one night at the Sabah Hotel in Sandakan. (B,L)

Day 6 – Kinabatangan River
Take a tour to the Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary where young, orphaned or captured orang utans are rehabilitated into the wild. Drive on for two hours to Sukau on the Kinabatangan River, an area that’s home to 10 species of primates, 8 species of hornbills, and a wide variety of other animals and birds. Take an afternoon cruise on the lookout for elephants, crocodiles and other wildlife. Stay two nights at the Borneo Nature Lodge. (B,L,D)

Day 7 – Ox Bow Lake
Wake up to the calls of birds, insects and animals. Join a sunrise cruise up the Kinabatangan River and onto Kelenanap Ox Bow Lake for bird watching. Explore the large limestone Gomantong Cave, famous for its bird’s nests. Late afternoon take another wildlife viewing cruise. (B,L,D)

Day 8 – Sukau – Sandakan – Kota Kinabalu
Return to Sandakan for a tour of the city. Visit the deeply moving War Memorial Park and Chapel, adjacent to the site of the World War ll POW camp. Visit the Buddhist Temple overlooking Sandakan Bay and Agnes Keith House for an insight to the author’s life here in colonial times. Lunch is at the nearby English Tea House then there is time for shopping at the Central Market before a flight to Kota Kinabalu. Stay three nights at Nexus Resort & Spa Karambunai. (B,L)

Day 9 & 10 – Kota Kinabalu
Days at leisure. (B daily)

Optional North Borneo Railway tour – available on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
A four hour journey on a refurbished steam train accommodates passengers in colonial style carriages where breakfast and a “tiffin” style lunch are served as the train travels through the rural and coastal regions of Sabah. Stops are made at village markets along the way. Cost $240 per person includes meals.

Day 11 – Depart Kota Kinabalu
Transfer to the airport for exit flight. (B)
