Arrive Beijing today and meet your guide who will transfer you to the Penta Hotel for a three night stay.
Day 2 – Great Wall excursion
Travel north from the city to the Great Wall of China. Visit the section known as Mutianyu Remnant, a little way off the usual tourist route, and known for its beautiful natural setting. You can walk on top of the wall and appreciate the scale of this remarkable structure as it snakes down valleys and along ridge lines as far as the eye can see (cable car rides are included). On the way back to Beijing stop at the Ming Tombs to stroll along the Sacred Way lined with animal statues. (B,L)
Day 3 – Beijing
A free day in Beijing, or take an optional city tour – prices on request. (B)
Day 4 – Beijing to Xian
Transfer to the airport for a flight to Xian. On arrival check in to the Grand New World Hotel for a two night stay. Balance of the day at leisure. (B)
Day 5 – Xian
Take a guided walk along the well preserved City Wall this morning. In the afternoon you will see another amazing sight; the Terracotta Warriors and Horses still standing in battle formation as placed 2000 years ago. Included is a full circle movie presentation providing the historical perspective for the main exhibition halls where excavation and restoration work is on going. (B,L)
Day 6 – Xian to Chongqing
Leisure time until a private transfer to Xian airport for the flight to Chongqing. On arrival transfer to the pier to board your ship, the Century Sun, for a three night Yangtze River cruise. All meals, entertainment and shore excursions are included. Settle in and become familiar with the ship’s facilities and sailing schedule, which may differ slightly to the cruise described below. (B)
Day 7 – Yangtze River Cruise
The shore excursion today is to the striking wooden structure on the cliff face at Shibaozhai, or perhaps the ‘Ghost City’ of Fengdu with its temple devoted to the king of the underworld. (B,L,D)
Day 8 – Yangtze River Cruise
Sail through Qutang and Wu Gorges, the first two of the famous Three Gorges. Transfer to
row boats for an excursion along the Shennon Stream. Back on board, enter Xiling Gorge,
the last of the Three Gorges, and cross the five step ship lock in the evening. (B,L,D)
Day 9 – Yichang to Shanghai
Visit the Three Gorges Dam. Disembark the ship late this morning at Yichang and transfer to the airport for your flight to Shanghai. On arrival in Shanghai transfer to the Bund Riverside Hotel for a three night stay. (B)
Day 10 – Shanghai
A free day in Shanghai, or take an optional city tour – prices on request. (B)
Day 11 – Suzhou excursion
Early morning departure for the 2-hour drive, with guide, to Suzhou, famous for its silk production, exquisite gardens and traditional canal living. Cruise the small canals of Suzhou seeing stone houses and arched bridges. See highly skilled textile work at the Silk Factory, then travel back to Shanghai late in the afternoon. (B,L)
Day 12 – Depart Shanghai
Free until transfer to the airport this afternoon for exit flight. (B)
