Day 1 – Arrive Kota Kinabalu
Transfer from the airport to your hotel. Stay three nights at the Horizon Hotel.
Day 2 – Kota Kinabalu
Tour the city of this morning. Take a bird’s eye view of Kota Kinabalu from Signal Hill. See the Sabah Foundation Building, the Buddhist Temple, the resplendent State Mosque with its majestic domes and gold motifs, and visit the State Museum. Afternoon at leisure. (B)
Day 3 – Kiulu River White Water Rafting
Travel by coach to Kiulu River, located in the Tamparuli area with breathtaking Mount Kinabalu as a backdrop. After a safety briefing commence your white water rafting journey covering up to 15km of rapids and swift flowing waters. The journey concludes after about two hours at a riverbank spot where a delicious barbeque lunch awaits. (B,L)
Day 4 – Kota Kinabalu – Kinabalu Park
Start early for the drive to Mt Kinabalu Park for grand views of the imposing mist covered mountain. Relax in a sulphur bath at Poring Hot Spring then take a canopy walk high above the rainforest. In the afternoon visit the park’s exhibition centre and Mountain Garden to see specimens of the diverse plant life. A naturalist will take you on a trail walk. Also visit Kundasang War Memorial, a series of gardens representing the homelands of fallen World War ll soldiers of the tragic Death March.Stay one night at the Hill Lodge at Kinabalu Park. (B,L,D)
Day 5 – Climb Mount Kinabalu
Pack an overnight pack for a trek to the summit of Mount Kinabalu. Join your guide at Timpohon Gate and begin the ascent. Stop for a packed lunch along the trail and end your day at Laban Rata, the midway rest house at 3,345m. Stay one night at Laban Rata Rest House, basic dormitory with shared facilities. (B,L,D)
Day 6 – Laban Rata – Kinabalu Park
Your mountain conquest begins before dawn ahead of morning mists and the first rays of the sun. Low’s Peak at 4,095m is your summit destination for a spectacular view of the distant horizon. Return to Laban Rata for a late breakfast before descending to the park headquarters where successful climbers are awarded a certificate. Stay one night at the Hill Lodge. (B,L,D)
Day 7 – Kinabalu Park – Sandakan
Drive on to Sandakan, stopping at a fish spa for those who would like to try the unusual experience of allowing fish to nibble away dead skin cells! Travel through palm oil plantations to Labuk Bay, arriving in time for the afternoon feeding of the Proboscis monkeys. Stay two nights at the Sabah Hotel. (B)
Day 8 – Sandakan & Sepilok Orang Utans
Tour Sandakan this morning. Visit the deeply moving War Memorial Park and Chapel, adjacent to the site of the World War ll POW camp. Visit the Buddhist Temple overlooking Sandakan Bay and Agnes Keith House for an insight to the author’s life here in colonial times. In the afternoon travel to the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre where you will have a chance to see orang utans up close in their natural habitat. (B)
Day 9 – Sandakan – Danum Valley
Travel by road for four or five hours to Danum Valley, the largest protected area of lowland dipterocarp rainforest in Sabah. Have lunch before an afternoon nature trail trek and tree top canopy walk. In the evening board an open top vehicle on the lookout for nocturnal animals. Stay two nights at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge. (B,L,D)
Day 10 – Danum Valley
More guided jungle trekking today, daytime and evening. (B,L,D)
Day 11 – Danum Valley – Lahad Datu – Kota Kinabalu
Morning at leisure then transfer to Lahad Datu Airport for a flight to Kota Kinabalu. Stay two nights at the Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa. (B,L)
Day 12 – Kota Kinabalu
Day at leisure to enjoy the facilities at your beach resort. (B)
Day 13 – Depart Kota Kinabalu
