Day 1 – Arrive Beijing
Arrive Beijing airport where you will be met and transferred to your hotel.
Stay four nights at the Novotel Peace Hotel.
Day 2 – Beijing
Today you will visit the famous sights of Beijing including the majestic Forbidden City, Tian’anmen Square, and the Hutongs, Beijing’s ancient, narrow streets. In the evening attend a performance of the Chinese Kong Fu Show. (B,L,D)
Day 3 – Great Wall excursion
Travel north from the city to the Great Wall of China. Visit the section known as Badaling Remnant, a little way off the usual tourist route, and known for its beautiful natural setting. You can walk on top of the wall and appreciate the scale of this remarkable structure as it snakes down valleys and along ridge lines as far as the eye can see. On the way back to Beijing stop at the Ming Tombs to stroll along the Sacred Way lined with animal statues, and see the Olympic Park. (B,L)
Day 4 – Beijing
Visit the Temple of Heaven for a one hour class with a Tai Chi master. Be delighted by the antics of the Pandas at Beijing Zoo before experiencing the graceful gardens and lakeside setting of the Summer Palace. This evening enjoy a Beijing specialty – a Peking Duck Banquet. (B,L,D)
Day 5 – Beijing to Xian
Transfer to the rail station for the high speed train to Xian (G653 0942/1530). Visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and see the fountains in its northern square. A colourful Tang Dance Show is included this evening.
Stay two nights at the Grand Noble Hotel. (B,D)
Day 6 – Xian
Today you will see another amazing sight; the Terracotta Warriors and Horses still standing in battle formation as placed 2000 years ago. Visit the main exhibition halls where excavation and restoration work is on going. Later visit the remains of the 6,000 year old Banpo Village before ending the day with a traditional Dumpling Dinner whilst being entertained by the colourful Tang Dance Show. (B,L,D)
Day 7 – Xian to Chengdu
Take the high speed train to Chengdu this morning and transfer to your hotel. Tour the city with visits to Jinli Street and the People’s Park.
Stay one night at the Tianfu Sunshine Hotel. (B,L)
Day 8 – Chengdu – Lijiang
Visit the Panda Breeding Centre to learn about the efforts being made to preserve these cuddly creatures. Then fly on to Lijiang, a World Heritage listed town in Yunnan Province, known for its wooden houses and stone streets laced with swift flowing canals.
Stay three nights at the Lijiang Wangfu Hotel. (B,L)
Day 9 – Lijiang
Set off early this morning to visit Baisha village and a Tibetan lamasery at Yufeng. Later visit the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and take a chairlift ride to Spruce Meadow for views of spectacular mountain scenery. Back at the base of the mountain a treat is in store. View the grand production of “Impression Lijiang” at an outdoor amphitheatre with the mountain as a backdrop, featuring a cast of 500 local people! (B,L)
Day 10 – Tiger Leaping Gorge
Take a day tour to see the auspicious First Bend of the Yangtze River and further on to spectacular Tiger Leaping Gorge where the Yangtze thunders between sheer cliffs. (B,L)
Day 11 – Lijiang – Dali
Visit Black Dragon Pool and stroll around the ancient town. In the afternoon travel to Dali.
Stay two nights at the Regent Hotel. (B,L)
Day 12 – Dali
Tour the old city and Xizhou village with its early morning market and typical Bai architecture. Taste the local brew at a Bai tea ceremony and enjoy a simple Bai cultural show. Then take a cruise on peaceful Erhai Lake where the three Pagodas of the Chongsheng Monastery are reflected in the still waters. (B,L)
Day 13 – Dali – Kunming
Fly to Kunming this morning. Upon arrival visit the Stone Forest, a large area of eroded limestone peaks.
Stay one night at the New Era Hotel or Holiday Inn. (B,L)
Day 14 – Depart Kunming
Morning visit to the Bird & Flower Market before transferring to the airport for your flight home. (B)
